Mar 8th 2019

If you enjoy scuba diving and other aquatic activities, Bonaire might be the perfect destination for your next vacation. Located in the Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela, this island has everything you could want in a vacation spot. Enjoy beautiful weather, pristine beaches, and unforgettable attractions as you take in the Caribbean culture.

Here are a few activities and attractions you can enjoy if you vacation in Bonaire:

Cargill Salt Ponds

Standing at roughly 50 feet tall, Bonaire’s salt pyramids are a sight to behold. Each pyramid has approximately 10,000 metric tons of salt, one of Bonaire’s major commodities. The pyramids are lined up waiting to be transferred onto ships.

Surrounding these pyramids are breathtaking saline ponds home to thousands of shorebirds. Thanks to the abundance of shorebirds, these salt ponds are also a designated Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site of Regional Importance.

When you visit the Cargill Salt Ponds, you can experience the picturesque landscape and shorebirds, flamingos, and other birds. If you like sightseeing, this tourist attraction is worth traveling to visit.

1000 Steps Beach

Bonaire has over 62 diving and snorkeling sites. If you love snorkeling, or if you want to give it a try, 1000 Steps Beach is the place to go. Named for its 67 limestone stairs, 1000 Steps Beach is worth the descent. Relax on lovely white sand beaches, gaze at the beautiful limestone cliffs, and explore the marine life when you dive and snorkel. You might even see a sea turtle or two and some parrot fish on your excursion. With its incredible views and amazing snorkeling tours, 1000 Steps Beach helps make Bonaire a great vacation destination.

Bonaire National Marine Park

Home to over 340 species of fish, Bonaire National Marine Park is a cannot miss attraction. This stretch of coral reefs and mangroves stretches 6,700 acres and includes Lac Bay, one of the largest bays in the Caribbean. If you want to appreciate the beauty of coral reefs and other marine life, this will be a nice spot to visit.

Across this park you will also find plenty of other fun activities from windsurfing and kayaking to discovering authentic Caribbean cuisine. Bonaire National Marine Park is a Bonaire treasure.

Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary

Take photos of bright, gorgeous flamingos near pink saline ponds when you visit the Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary. Most impressive, it is one of only four places across the globe where flamingos breed. Make your vacation memorable and visit the flamingos at the Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary.
